Description
Co-Principal Investigator is Dr. Jennifer Tidey. Co-Investigators are Drs. Christopher Kahler, Peter Monti, Tracy O’Leary Tevyaw, and Damaris Rohsenow. This research involves three studies examining smoking behavior as a reinforcer in adolescents and examines the impact of alternative reinforcers in smoking behavior. Two laboratory choice experiments compare choices for cigarette puffs to choices for varying amounts of money. A community-based assessment study compares smokers to nonsmokers with respect to the availability and enjoyment of reinforcers in their natural environment. This five-year project was funded in 2003; data collection is scheduled to be completed in 2007.
