Description
This R01 was awarded by NIDA in 2007. Co-investigators are Suzanne Colby and Christopher Kahler. The goal of this study is to better understand the process of relapse among adolescent cigarette smokers. In the study, 200 adolescents will use palm-top computers to record their moment-to-moment experiences and behavior, as they make an attempt to quit smoking. Thus, we will be able to isolate the cognitive, emotional, and behavioral cues for lapsing during a quit attempt. The data gathered in this study will provide a detailed picture of the relapse process among adolescents, which may lead to improved treatments for this population.
