Biography
I am interested in being listed as a potential sponsor for
undergraduate research. My psychiatric genetics and behavioral
pharmacology laboratories are located at the Providence VA Hospital so transportation may be an issue for some students. My research relates to the identification of genetic variation that is associated with psychiatric and behavior phenotypes. I actively collaborate on over 40 projects with investigators at Brown, affiliated hospitals and collaborating institutions around the country. Research topics span addiction phenotypes (alcohol, nicotine, cocaine, and opiates), anxiety phenotypes (PTSD), Mood phenotypes (depression), behavior phenotypes (sleep) and pharmacogenetics (the use of genetic profiles to predict
medication efficacy and side-effects) among others. Opportunities for students may include molecular genotyping and analyses of candidate genes with relation to collected behavior data or working on human pharmacology studies (future studies that are funded but not yet up and running include virtual reality scenarios for PTSD assessment.
